Honest Taxi Driver and Passenger Return Lost Phone

When In Manila, people would often warn you of snatchers and hold-uppers especially at night. News of these petty crimes and theft have spread throughout our Facebook walls that really leave such a negative effect on us. So instead of spreading all that negativity, why don’t we focus on the good today? For the past months, we’ve heard a handful of stories of honest and hardworking Filipinos. Today, allow us to share more uplifting news that will hopefully inspire each one to continue being good and honest citizens of this country.

Jam B. shares his experience with an honest taxi driver:

Honest Taxi Driver

Yesterday, we took a taxi cab via GrabTaxi on our way to our prod gig at Selda Dos. As usual kulitan and kwentuhan kasama si Trisha at Angelo hehe
As we were setting up our entrance ticket table, Madalas I always check the time on my phone and it was gone! I checked all my pockets, checked all the compartments on my bag! No luck!
Damn! I rarely misplace my phone pag asa labas so I told Jhelo to miscall it so we’ll hear it and ayun nagring at may sumagot! At first I thought si Coco ung nag answer so sabi ko Cocs pakidala na lang ung phone ko sa gig ha and the reciever said: Ito po ung driver ng Taxi na sinakyan nio kanina, pa-Makati na po ang byahe ko and baka isurrender ko na lang po at kuhanin nio na lang po sa Radyo Singko. We thanked him for his honesty and said if possible kung madaan siya later ng QC para sa phone? At kami na mag pay ng patak if ever. Luckily he said yes and will but at a later, later time and it was still okay with us.
Hours later he came back at Selda Dos Bar and even called prior na malapit na daw sha. We met and thanked him again and really appreciated his honesty.
We didn’t get the name but we felt we met 2 angels at the same time that moment.
Such honesty and humility and I believe he really deserve some recognition even if it is just a Facebook post. It’s a testament that there are really people having good souls.

Thank you ser Anselmo Dumapal! Plate: AAL 7886
Saludo po kami sa inyo!
Mabuhay po kayo!!!

Rough English translation:

Yesterday, we took a taxi cab via GrabTaxi on our way to our prod gig at Selda Dos. We shared a few laughs and stories with Trisha at Angelo hehe
As we were setting up our entrance ticket table, I wanted tto check the time on my phone and it was gone! I checked all my pockets, checked all the compartments in my bag! No luck! Damn! I rarely misplace my phone when I’m out. So I told Jhelo to give it a ring so we can hear it… and suddenly, someone picks up. At first, I thought it was Coco. I even told him to please bring my phone to the gig. But the person on the line replied saying he was the driver of the cab I rode earlier. He was on his way to Makati and planned to just surrender my phone to Radyo Singko where I can go pick it up. We thanked him for his honesty and asked if he could droop by QC to return the phone instead. We will just pay his fare. Luckily, he said yes but will be able to do so at a later, later time and it was still okay with us.

Hours later he came back at Selda Dos Bar and even called prior to inform us that he was near. We met and thanked him again and really appreciated his honesty. In today’s world, it’s rare for anyone to return lost items, especially lost phones. We tried giving him a lil tip but he happily refused and said that the phone belonged to me. He also told me I should also be thankful for the passenger after me as he was the one who noticed the phone and surrendered it to the driver. We didn’t get the name but we felt we met 2 angels at the same time that moment.
Such honesty and humility and I believe he really deserve some recognition even if it is just a Facebook post. It’s a testament that there are really people having good souls.
