High Ground: A Vertical Foodpark Experience Near the Metro

For refreshments, we tapped the High Ground’s resident baristas to serve us few of their best-selling thirst quenchers. We had the “Over Ice” series in strawberry, matcha and peppermint mocha flavors.

As if they weren’t enough, they also treated us to their frappe specialties, such as the Chocolate Nutella Dinosaur, Rabbit Nutella, Monkey Nutella and Lion Nutella (Php99 each). The flavors range from chocolate and banana to avocado and lemon. The one that has a lemony flavor is a hit because of its balanced taste of sweet and sour.

On to the next fare: the Combo Meal of baked penne, Awesome Chicken and coleslaw (Php118) from Gourmet Savory Chicken. The chicken is as awesome as it can get; it’s a big serving, after all. The baked penne is a standout, too, with just the right hint of tomato sauce and cheese.

For our Mexican fix, we were served a large bowl of nachos (Php160) and Chimichangas (Php120) from El Paprika. The latter is a fried burrito with cilantro rice and salsa, all rolled into one satisfying main meal.

And how can we miss the flavor of Spain? We had churros in chocolate syrup (Php60) from Santaio. The fried dough sticks are sprinkled with sugar for more sweetness. Santaio is the same booth that served us the summer favorite Halo-Halo (Php60), which has a generous serving of each ingredient and creamy milk. I just think the sweetened bananas should be cut into smaller bits for easier intake.

We didn’t get to have a boodle fight from Tabo, though, because we were already feeling full. Tabo’s specialties include rice toppings over sizzling plates. Mr. Grilled, its neighbor, offers Filipino food, particularly classic inihaw recipes. On the other side is Maki Express, your go-to stall for everything Japanese: sushi, bento, ramen and more.

Let’s not forget the very space that made High Ground an Instagram-worthy hangout though. If you’re a fan of ‘Game of Thrones’, a mandatory photo-op at the castle’s GOT-inspired throne should follow after feasting on a meal (or two, you’ll never know!) that is fit for royalty.
