Hidilyn Diaz Honors Miraculous Medal Chapel for Her Historic Olympic Gold Win

During her trip to Paris, Hidilyn Diaz made a special visit to the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. This was a long-held dream for Hidilyn Diaz, because she believed it helped her win the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. In case you missed it, Hidilyn Diaz wore a miraculous medal along with the Philippines’ first Olympic gold at the 2020 award ceremony.

“Hindi ko makakalimutan ang Tokyo Olympics awarding kung saan sinuot ko ang Miraculous Medal kasama ang pinakaunang Olympic Gold ng Pilipinas,” she recalled. (“I will never forget the Tokyo Olympics awarding ceremony where I wore the Miraculous Medal together with the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold medal.”) “And now, here in Paris, last August 6, 2024, I finally fulfilled my dream of visiting the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Rue Du Bac.”

“Dito sa Kapilyang ito nagpakita si Mama Mary kay St. Catherine Laboure at inatasan siyang ipalaganap ang Medalya Milagrosa,” Hidily Diaz continued. (“Here in this Chapel, Mother Mary appeared to St. Catherine Laboure and commissioned him to spread the Miraculous Medal.”) “I offered a marble memorial at the chapel as a gesture of gratitude for winning the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.”

Kasama ko ang aking asawa, si Coach Julius Naranjo, and also David Panlilio, who joined me in making an offering at the altar. Nagdasal ako at nag nilay sa mga sagradong lugar ng Kapilya. I would always remind athletes na ang success natin ay galing sa Diyos, and we must never forget to give thanks to Him for all the blessings and graces na natatanggap natin.

(“I was with my husband, Coach Julius Naranjo, and also David Panlilio, who joined me in making an offering at the altar. I prayed and meditated in the sacred places of the Chapel. I would always remind athletes that our success comes from God, and we must never forget to give thanks to Him for all the blessings and graces we receive.”)

She also expressed gratitude towards the Filipino Sisters of the Daughters of Charity who manage the Chapel, and the Seminarians of the Society of Foreign Missions of Paris who provided them with a tour of their seminary and assistance at the chapel.

To conclude her post, Hidilyn Diaz quoted the prayer inscribed on the medal: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
