G’s Cafe: Say G to Good Food and a Great Hangout Place

G’s Cafe: Say G to Good Food and a Great Hangout Place

Car parts and services – these are just some of the many things that Banawe Street is known for. For years, it has been the haven for both automotive enthusiasts and anyone who needs anything for his or her own car. Everyday, people visit the car parts and repair shops here, seeking assistance from experts who can help them address their different car concerns.

G's Cafe

Gears and G’s Cafe at night

Gears is just one of these shops. Like others, it also offers car repair services. It is also a distributor of certain brands and it is very easy to say that it does look ordinary. Yet, what some people might not know is that there is actually something that makes Gears extra special. We heard some news before that there was something else that could be found in here apart from, well, car parts. We heard that it was something that would appeal even to those who aren’t really into cars.

Since we were intrigued, we gave it a shot one night. Afterall, our office was located in the area anyway. Of course, when it comes to good food and great hang-out place, we are always G as in Game.

So off we went to Gears and climbed onto its mezzanine floor. What greeted us was a cafe. G’s Cafe is what it’s called – the perfect place to hang out and dine as you wait for your car to be fixed. Now, it seems like one can already say goodbye to long and seemingly endless (even boring, for some who just cannot relate) waits until car repair services are done. Because of the great food and really relaxing place G’s Cafe offers, one may even wish for a longer repair session to futher enjoy the greatness that the establishment has to offer.

G’s Cafe was originally conceptualized to serve as a hangout place for car enthusiasts who frequented the shop. The owners eventually realized that it would be cool to put up a cafe for the benefit of Gears’ patron who had been faithful since it opened in October 2013. So, in November of the same year, they started G’s Cafe.

Road signs and other car-related stuff everywhere

Since it was originally conceptualized to be a hangout place for automotive enthusiasts, G’s Cafe carefully infused automotives into its interior. The result is so cool: a place spiced up with car parts and road signs as decos. Even some chairs were customized to give its customers a unique experience and, at the same time, comfort.

Apart from that, it also uses automotive-related concepts for some of the food items that it serves. According to Manager Geoff, they likened some of the food items with automotive parts and even brands that they distribute. Similar to how metaphors work, they look for things that are common between the part and the food and once they find it, they assign a name to it based on their similarities.

We were lucky to have tried some of them. The first one was the Piston Thai Shrimp Roll. The rolls come with a sauce which, like piston, is hot due to its spiciness.

We also tried the Radial Roasted Beef Sandwhich, which embodies the balance between sin and repentance. Though it comes with beef, it also has enough veggies to strike a good balance. What is even cooler is that it comes with homemade potato chips.

Next was the MCC Combo, a 10-inch thin-crust pizza topped with cheese, herbs, mushroom, and beef. My sources were right: pizza here is something to die for.

There was also the High Gear Creamy Pesto. It uniquely infuses cream and pesto, which usually comes as two separate entities. Indeed, it is one of the most unexpected combos I have encountered thus far. Good thing, no matter how unusual it was for me, it still worked and I fell in love with it at first chew.

Besides the dishes named after car parts and brands, there are also a lot of other interesting finds at G’s Cafe, thanks to its creative and innovative chef and owners who work hand-in-hand to experiment and discover more unique and interesting combinations. And since G’s Cafe does not focus on one particular cuisine, one can expect a wider variety of food here.

The Fish and Chips, which comes with deliciously-made garlic mayo, was a good starter among them.

The Grilled Porkchop, which comes with a cup of rice and swims in flavorful gravy, had a taste that exploded in the mouth.

It was the same thing with the Herb Roasted Chicken, also with rice. The taste of different herbs made alive by the rich gravy was also explosive.

Besides these mouthwatering treats, there are also cakes available for a sweet finale. Indeed, a perfect way to end a feast.

And of course, it is also heaven for coffee lovers. G’s Cafe has professionally-trained baristas to make sure every coffee lover finds happiness in every cup or glass that they order.

Since it offers free wifi and provides outlets for almost all of its tables, people also come here to study and to work. Professionals who also work nearby love to stay here after office hours because it is open from 10 in the morning to 12 midnight. The place also plays great music, which also makes it ideal for meet-ups.
