1. First-Time Jobseeker Assistance Certificate
Personally, this was something no one told me when conversations about valid IDs and job hunting first came up. Before applying for the essential IDs listed below, make sure to secure a First-Time Jobseekers Certificate from your barangay. It’s a must-have, as it allows you to waive fees for many documentary requirements.
The First-Time Jobseekers Certificate is an official document issued by your local barangay under Republic Act 11261, also known as the First-Time Jobseekers Assistance Act. This law promotes employment among young Filipino adults by allowing a one-time exemption from fees when obtaining government-issued documents required for job applications.
To avail the First-Time Jobseeker Assistance Certificate, you must be:
- A Filipino citizen
- A resident for at least six (6) months in the barangay where the barangay certification was issued
- A first-time job seeker (it can be a fresh graduate or an out-of-school youth who is looking for work)
Once you have your First-Time Jobseeker Assistance Certificate, always remember to bring it with you wherever you go. It can help you save a few hundred pesos, which is a big deal when you’re just starting!
2. NBI Clearance
The NBI Clearance, issued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), is a valid legal document that certifies an individual has no criminal record. While it is only valid for one (1) year, it’s a helpful form of identification, especially when you’re just starting your job search.
To apply for an NBI Clearance, visit the NBI Clearance website and create an account. Fill out the required information carefully, ensuring all details are accurate. Once completed, save your information and click the “APPLY FOR CLEARANCE” button. A pop-up window will appear prompting you to select the valid ID you will present during your appearance at your chosen NBI Clearance branch.
Afterward, schedule your appointment and take note of your reference number. Don’t forget to bring the valid ID you selected during your online application.
With your First-Time Jobseeker Assistance Certificate, obtaining your NBI Clearance would be so much easier since you would be able to skip the long lines when you visit your preferred NBI Branch.
3. PhilHealth
PhilHealth, or the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, is a government agency that provides health insurance coverage to Filipinos. This allows citizens to have access to affordable and quality healthcare services.
If you don’t have a PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN) yet, just fill out two copies of the PhilHealth Member Registration Form (PMRF) and submit the PMRF to your employer’s HR department.
If you are applying for PhilHealth without being employed yet, you can apply through their website and register online.
4. PAG-IBIG Fund
The Pag-IBIG Fund, which is officially known as the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), enables Filipino workers to save money and access affordable housing loans.
To proceed, visit the Pag-IBIG Fund website and fill out the pre-registration form. Complete the security check by entering the required verification code.
Next, fill out the Online Membership Registration Form, ensuring all details are accurate before submitting. Once processed, you will receive your Pag-IBIG Membership ID within two working days.
5. Social Security System (SSS)
The Social Security System (SSS) provides financial protection to workers and self-employed individuals in case of various life events and emergencies, including maternity, disability, retirement, death, and more.

6. Tax Identification Number (TIN)
A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is a unique number issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). This valid ID is required for all working individuals, including fresh graduates entering the workforce, as it’s used to properly track and manage your tax records, especially when filing income tax returns.
To register for a TIN, you must:
- Accomplish BIR Form 1902 if you are a fresh graduate employed for the first time.
- Submit the accomplished BIR form with valid IDs to the Revenue District Office (RDO) where your employer is registered or where you reside.
