Prior to Arjo Atayde’s alleged connection to Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya II and Sarah Discaya, his sister Gela Atayde has defended her brother from bashers.

On TikTok, Gela responded to social media users who criticized Arjo’s frequent travels both locally and internationally. In one comment that asked if her budget came from her “Kuya congressman,” she clarified that she is not funded by her brother.
“My paycheck, babe,” she wrote. “My kuya’s busy serving, not stealing.”
“Kuya’s income streams are called acting & business, not corruption,” she added. “Diba maraming nangangailangan ng tulong (A lot of people need help, right)? We help because we can. Pag tumulong, may hanash. Pag hindi, kasalanan din. Ano ba talaga (When we help other people, people get mad. When we don’t, people still get mad. Where do we stand)?”
The rising actress continued to defend her brother in the comment section of her TikTok video.
“He didn’t enter politics for luxury, he entered to serve. A foundation can only do so much, but a Congressman can push bills, fix broken systems, and make sure taxes actually go to the right places. That’s the kind of change he’s working for. His personal life? His travels? None of your business because unlike others, we can proudly say that it’s the fruit of hard earned money. Your concern is valid but I think you have the wrong person here. Thank you.”
Before the flood control controversy and the wave of public figures being “canceled” on social media for flaunting their lavish lifestyles online, the 34-year-old actor-politician often shared photos of his local and international trips with his wife, Maine Mendoza.
On September 8, the Quezon City congressman was among those accused of allegedly soliciting money from flood control projects.
