Final ‘Evangelion’ movie gets release date

In 1995, Neon Genesis Evangelion first hit Japan as an anime series. After 25 years, it has become a global phenomenon that leads to numerous movies, video games, and more. Now, the fourth movie in the reboot series is coming, and sadly, it will be the final installment.

The last installment will be released in Japan in June 2020. Shin Evangelion Gekijo-ban: (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0) will be the fourth and is the final installment following Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone in 2007, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance in 2009, and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in 2012.

The news of the release date was revealed by Japanese national paper Asahi Shimbun (translated from Japanese).

Evangelion’s anime series was recently made available on streaming platform Netflix. It has seen some big changes to it – some of which were very puzzling, such as adjustments to music, voice actors, and lines of dialogue.

Hideaki Anno, the creator of the original series, is the chief director of the new episodes. There is no global release date as of press time.

Anno isn’t stopping with this final animated installment, though. He’s also writing and producing a live-action Ultraman movie, which Shinji Higuchi–who worked with Anno on Shin Godzilla–will direct. Currently, the movie is titled Shin Ultraman, and the movie is expected to arrive sometime in 2021.
