Known for his healing masses and supposed ability to raise people from the dead, Filipino Catholic healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez passed away this February 4. This was confirmed by his organization, the Missionaries of Mary Mother of the Poor.
Father Suarez suffered a heart attack while playing tennis at the Alabang Country Club. He collapsed and was rushed to the Asian Hospital Medical Center but was declared dead around 3 p.m.
“Our healing priest si Fr. Fernando Suarez has collapsed and died of a heart attack, massive heart attack while he was playing tennis… It was a yearly tournament for priests, all priests ang participants,” Spokesperson Dedee Siytangco announced on dzMM radio.
Despite Father Suarez’s immense popularity with the public, his supposed healing capabilities served as a matter of conflict with other members of the Catholic Church. He was banned by multiple bishops from performing healing masses in their respective dioceses.
It was only last month that the Vatican cleared Father Suarez of allegations of sexually abusing minors.
