Fans Resurface “Maria Clara at Ibarra” Actor David Licauco’s Old Tweet About Studying Jose Rizal

Fans have resurfaced an old tweet that “Maria Clara at Ibarra” actor David Licauco had posted back when he was a student wherein he complained about studying the life and works of Jose Rizal.

In the resurfaced tweets, David was seen ranting about his studies, claiming that he had nothing to learn from it apart from the hero’s “girls and vices.”

“Studying Jose Rizal’s life for tom’s finals. Ano makukuha ko dito,” he wrote in one tweet.

“Hassle [Jose Rizal]… what do we care about Jose Rizal’s girls and vices!!!” he added.

Many fans poked fun at David and compared him to his character’s love interest Klay portrayed by Barbie Forteza, who in the series is a Gen-Z nursing student who gets transported into the setting of Rizal’s books “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo” to learn more about Philippine history. They joked that he was trapped inside the book too and eventually became his character Fidel.

Even Suzette Doctolero couldn’t help but tease David in her own post. Nahalungkat nila. [laughing emojis]”

David merely replied with: “Omg hahahahaha!”

When asked about it in a press conference for an endorsement, he expressed shocked that his old tweets went viral but shared that it was normal to share one’s thoughts in an online space as a student.

“Well, nagulat ako,” he said.

Ganun yung Twitter before. Wala lang, baka mayroon pang iba,” he added. Noong umpisa kinabahan ako kasi baka isipin nila wala akong kwentang tao. Pero siyempre, dati I was 17 years old or 16… luckily, hindi naman sila nag-react ng masama.”
