DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello IIII said a total of Php 1.4 billion will be allocated to helping over 260,000 affected workers in the private sector. They will be offering emergency employment assistance amounting to PHP180 million as well as cash assistance amounting to PHP1.3 billion.

The emergency employment will be given to informal sector workers under the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Displaced/Underprivileged Workers (TUPAD). The cash assistance falls under the Covid Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP).

Bello explained that the initial allocation for TUPAD will pay for barangay workers to disinfect the communities, while the CAMP allocation is for financial assistance to workers displaced by the community quarantine.

Based on Department Order 209, each affected worker will receive PHP5,000 as financial assistance. CAMP is merely meant to be a safety net program for workers suffering from closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
