DOH Confirms 2nd nCoV Patient’s Death

The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed the 2nd case of nCoV during a press briefing. Health Secretary Francisco Duque explained that the 2nd case is the 44-year-old Chinese National who is the companion of the 1st nCoV case in the Philippines.

The close contact between the Chinese Nationals who traveled from Wuhan China to the Philippines had caused the transmission of the virus. The 2nd case was admitted to San Lazaro Hospital in Manila due to fever, cough and sore throat. He then developed pneumonia and died on February 1, 2020.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this is the first death related to nCoV outside China.

On the other hand, Secretary Duque said the 24 patients under investigation were cleared of the virus.

“We are continuously recalibrating our plans and efforts as the situation develops. We are providing the public with constant updates and advisories as frequently as possible,” said Secretaty Duque.

The Government urges the public to observe proper handwashing to help avoid the virus.
