With the launch of Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred, two new classes arrive: the Paladin and the Warlock. Announced during Diablo’s 30th Anniversary Spotlight, players can experience the heavy metal might of the Warlock alongside the divine light of the Paladin. Diablo IV introduces a unique take on the Warlock, defined by metal chains, flames, and destructive power that turns the wrath of Hell against itself.

CLASS INTRODUCTION – Bound by Hell
The Warlock stands as a fresh fantasy for Diablo IV, rooted in rebellion and a heavy metal attitude. The class channels chaos that is barely contained, constantly transforming the battlefield. Every movement, visual, and sound is designed to feel deliberate and intense, reflecting the physical toll of wielding Hell’s energy.
GAMEPLAY IDENTITY AND CORE SYSTEMS – Dual Resource Class, Soul Shards, and Variants
DOUBLE THE FORCE:
The Warlock is a Willpower-based class focused on dominating the battlefield. As one of the few classes that use two resources, Warlocks wield Wrath to unleash chaotic destruction and Dominance to summon powerful demons.
- Create manifestations of Hell and bring them into Sanctuary as demons or demon parts to alter the battlefield.
- Control where demons move, how long they remain, and their state, allowing complete authority over the chaos summoned.
- Combine abilities to create chain reactions, eliminating enemies and demons swiftly.
SOUL SHARD SYSTEM:
Players can choose one of four primary Soul Shards to define their powers and playstyle, shaping their identity and class fantasy. Each shard grants a transformative passive ability and binds a specific demon companion. Players then select one of three fragment sub-options that act as specialization layers, determining passive skills, resources, and abilities. The four Soul Shards and their archetypes include:
- LEGION: Spawns physical demonic entities, allowing players to control and chain multiple units together.
- VANGUARD: Focuses on mobility and frontline aggression through a fiery steed that creates openings and applies pressure.
- MASTERMIND: Utilizes a shadow demon for battlefield control, enabling surprise attacks and enemy manipulation.
- RITUALIST: Sacrifices demons to generate bursts of power, trading companions for increased damage and efficiency.
VARIANT EXPRESSIONS:
Many Warlock abilities can be reshaped through variants, altering how powers manifest in combat. Each variant allows players to lean into chaos, precision, or dominance. Examples include:
- RAMPAGE: Summons a demon brute that destroys everything in its path.
- SIGIL OF SUMMONS: Performs rituals to summon additional demons with customizable outcomes.
- FIEND OF ABADDON: Calls forth a massive demon wielding a hellforged greatsword to devastate the battlefield.
FANTASY & LORE – A Dark Legacy
The Warlock emerges as a practitioner of forbidden arts, shaped by the dark legacy of the Vizjerei. Choosing to summon demons as tools in the fight against Mephisto, Warlocks walk a dangerous path. Unlike their holy counterparts, they draw from a corrupt history and must balance their knowledge with the constant temptation of power.
