Dia-Beat-This Low Sugar Diet: Say Hello to the New Kid On The Block

With the influx of diets and players in the market, it can be difficult to choose one that fits your lifestyle. From the Paleo Diet to the Lunchbox Diet, all of these programs have one thing in common: delivering set meals daily. More than just shedding a few pounds, though, meal planning can help you achieve a healthier lifestyle and maintain better overall well-being.

High Sugar Intake

Our body needs glucose to function. Unfortunately, a large portion of the processed foods our generation revels in contains high amounts of fructose in the form of High Fructose Corn Syrup (sounds familiar?). And even more unfortunate, the liver is the only organ that can process fructose – to a limit. And with the Filipino’s palate inclined to sweets (Filipino-style spaghetti, halo-halo, banana-que, etc.) and our innate love for white rice, it may not be surprising that 1/5 of our countrymen are predisposed to having diabetes.

Dia-Beat-This

Dia-Beat-This offers delicious and filling low sugar and low carbohydrate meals. Originally created by the owners for diabetics, the daily set menu is meant as a complementary diet along with exercise and maintenance medicine. However, because the benefits of a low sugar diet are so appealing, most of their clients are now working women who strive for a healthier lifestyle.

Dia-Beat-This

Nothing bland here! Whoever thought meals without sugar could be so tasty? Instead of sugar, Dia-Beat-This meals are heavy on herbs and spices like coriander, basil and oregano.

Their meals are composed of chicken, seafood and lean cuts of beef for protein; organic brown rice, whole wheat dough or pasta for carbohydrates; and A LOT of delicious vegetables. The meals aim for 1,200 calories per day for 5 days, giving clients the weekend off to create their own variations of the low sugar diet.

Erick Tabing, the nutritionist behind Dia-Beat-This pushes for brown rice over any other variant. It is high in calories, but has less sugar than white rice. Other advantages of brown rice include its high fiber content and the presence of vitamins and minerals.

And because they don’t think starvation is a diet, their daily menu is made up of 5 meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks in-between. Their snacks include vegan cookies in flavors such as decadent chocolate or oatmeal chocolate chip made with sugar substitutes such as Splenda or plant-based sweeteners like agave nectar or stevia, and of course, indulgent dark chocolate.
