Comedy Manila Revives Live Entertainment in the Metro

Comedy Manila Revives Live Entertainment in the Metro

When in Manila, one might find oneself weary of the usual entertainment choices available. Drinking in a bar or going clubbing have gone stale, not to mention ill-advised on a weekday night.

Comedy Manila, purveyor of quality stand-up comedy shows, has certainly alleviated the woeful state of live entertainment in the country. Boasting a calibre of humor and showmanship akin to international comedic acts, this collective of comedians could very well be the Philippines’ Monty Python – a comedic troupe brandishing humor that is undoubtedly beyond their time.

Their members’ comedic stylings range from the observational, the satyrical, the dark, down to the outright wonderfully absurd. Different artists grace different events – which point to their inherent finely tuned flair for crafting shows that are as cohesive and satisfying as they are distinct.

One of their stagings, aptly dubbed “The Best of Comedy Manila”, saw performances by:

GB Labrador – already a celebrated comedian in Southeast Asia;

Alex Calleja, whose ingenious brand of sarcastic humor is like David Spade on steroids and was certainly a crowd favorite;

Red Ollero – he with the genius for isolating and blowing up humor in the most mundane of things;

Victor Anastacio, fresh and edgy and one of the youngest in the group;

James Caraan, who whips out the funny unassumingly in his own effective style;

and Ryan Rems Sarita, an absurdist who calls to mind Eugene Mirman in style and Jim Jeffries in terms of alcohol content.

The night’s gracious host, Eri Neeman, is himself a comedian who has the sort of suave from the heyday of Jay Mohr.

Comedy Manila‘s current performance is Joketober, which runs from October 20 to 25 at various venues in the Metro. Be sure to catch one near you. They also host Comedy Mondays at Keg, The Fort Strip, Bonifacio Global City every Monday night.
