Calinao Cup: A Tournament for Peace

Calinao Cup: A Tournament for PeaceCALINAO CUP 2014 Invitational

Calinao Cup: A Tournament for Peace is a highly anticipated annual event of UP Volleyball Club. It is a tribute to Niño Calinao, a UPVC member, who was a victim of fraternity-related violence, and is on his 15th death anniversary.

Calinao Cup is the only 3-on-3 grass volleyball competition in the country. The event will be on March 15-16, 2014, and will be held at the Sunken Garden, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

It is a grass volleyball competition filled with fun, excitement and social interaction. This event is recurrently participated by volleyball varsity players of the University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University, National University, Adamson University, University of Asia & the Pacific and National College of Business and Arts, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, University of the East, San Sebastian College – Recoletos and De La Salle University. The tournament serves as a venue for college varsity players to showcase their skills in the said event and get to interact with students from other colleges. As much as the previous Calinao Cups had been, the competition this year will continue to promote and develop the talents of its participants. It will also let them learn how to get along with other people – one of the key characteristics that should be possessed in a working environment. But this year, we are opening the event to players outside the aforementioned universities. Given all these particulars, Calinao Cup is definitely a fun and memorable experience to partake.
