Are you ready to see actress Jisoo in action? Prepare to see a different side of the BLACKPINK star in the upcoming Korean series Newtopia.
On December 11, Prime Video announced that Jisoo and Park Jeong-min will headline the highly-anticipated zombie apocalypse series. The story, which is set in a zombie-infested Seoul, will revolve around Lee Jae-yoon (played by Jeong-min), who is serving his mandatory military service, and his girlfriend Kang Young-joo (played by Jisoo) as they attempt to race against time—and zombies—to be reunited.
Park Jeong-min is a highly acclaimed actor and writer. He rose to prominence for starring in films such as Bleak Night, Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, Deliver Us From Evil, and Smugglers.
Meanwhile, Jisoo is one of the four members of the globally popular K-pop girl group BLACKPINK. Aside from her highly successful music career, the BLACKPINK member has also ventured into acting.
The 29-year-old K-pop star made special appearances in various popular Korean series such as The Producers and Arthdal Chronicles, while she made her first lead appearance in the historical romance series Snowdrop opposite Jung Hae-in. With Newtopia, this marks her highly-anticipated comeback on the small screen after more than three years.
Newtopia is directed by Yoon Sung-hyun, known for his films Bleak Night and Time to Hunt—both of which also starred Park Jeong-min. The series is co-written by Han Jin-won, who co-wrote the Academy Award-winning film Parasite, and Jee Ho-jin, who co-wrote the 2024 action series A Shop for Killers.
The zombie apocalypse series will premiere on Prime Video in the Philippines and more than 240 countries, excluding South Korea, on February 7, 2025.
