BINI Aiah Recently Played a Card Game With Friends… So We Went to Find Out What It Is

BINI Aiah recently posted on her Instagram Stories a photo of herself playing a card game with friends, and because we at When In Manila are lovers of board games too, we went ahead and found out what exactly she played.

On BINI Aiah’s Instagram Story, she is seen sitting with her friends while different cards are laid out on a table in a 5×5 grid, some covered by either blue- or red-colored cards. These colored cards also look like they have faces on them while the white-colored ones don’t seem to have any, which can only mean one thing: she and her friends are playing the game Codenames!

What is Codenames, and how do you play it?

Codenames is a game where players are divided into teams of two, and each team elects a Spymaster. Cards containing different words are then laid out on the table in a 5×5 grid while the Spymasters draw a patterned tile that will tell them which words belong to their respective teams. These Spymasters then give single-word clues to their teammates and a number that corresponds to the number of cards that the clue can be applied to (ex. “morning, 3”). Teams must then point out which cards they think are theirs, and the Spymaster confirms by placing their assigned colored cards on these words. But if the team guesses a word owned by the opponent, the opposing Spymaster will place their own colored card on it, giving them an advantage. The first team that guesses all their words correctly wins. Teams who guess the secret word owned by an assassin, however, automatically fail the game.

This is a really fun party game of word association, and we highly recommend playing it with friends!

Get Codenames on Gaming Library‘s official website and its Shopee and Lazada stores. They have a Filipino version too!
