During the press conference of MTV Music Evolution 2016 last June 24, American singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha told us how she came up with her hit song “No Broken Hearts.”
She explained, “If you hear the song, I was actually going through a heartbreak. I was very sad. I was crying in the studio.ย I was crying, [because] I got my heartbroken. And I didnโt know how to get rid of the pain. [But then,] I heard a really happy beat in the studio. The producer was playing a happy beat, and I said, โjust press record on the computer, and Iโm gonna go and Iโm just gonna freestyle.โ”
Bebe expounded that “the song came from a very sad place, [even if] it sounds happy.”
The 26-year-old also told us how she writes her songs. The up-and-coming artist confessed, “Iโm learning that music is more than just hit records, and making a million dollars, and being famous.ย Itโs about changing the world, and itโs about making people know that theyโre not alone. ‘Iโm not the only one, Bebe feels the same, too.'”

Being the inspiring Queen Bee that she is, Bebe reminded the crowd before she reached her last song, “When nobody loves you back, but you love yourself, that’s all you need.”
