August History Month: How Well Do You Know Our National Symbols?

National hero Jose Rizal himself said, “Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinangalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan” [“He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination”]. This August, History Month, is the best time for Filipinos to look back…

And the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), which is in charge of the month-long celebration, has lined up some really interesting activities. Among which are the birth anniversary celebrations of August-born national heroes Manuel L. Quezon (August 19), Marcelo H. Del Pilar (August 30), and President Ramon Magsaysay (August 31). There is also a History Con from August 25 to 28. National Heroes Day event on August 29, which is a non-working day, will be one of the highlights. Check out the schedule of events.

August is History Month

A lot of activities and events to choose from during the month-long celebration

NHCP, by virtue of Republic Act 10086, is responsible for the conservation and preservation of the country’s historical legacies including architectural structures, relics and memorabilia of heroes and other renowned Filipinos.

In line with History Month, NHCP collaborated with Project Saysay in producing an infographic that shows the Philippine National Symbols such as the national tree, bird, flower etc. We bet many Filipinos don’t know what the national gem or motto is. Let us get to know our country even more. How many of the following national symbols do you know?

"Ano ang pambansang...?" How many of these national symbols do you really know?
