Anne Curtis Takes on Blade Training Once Again for Upcoming Project With Erik Matti

Anne Curtis has apparently returned to training with blades, as seen on her latest Instagram update. The photos featured herself training Pekiti Tirsia Kali and Sayoc Kali–both blade-focused Filipino martial arts–with master Rafael Kayanan. “Back to the blade. Refresher and Sayoc sesh with [Rafael Kayanan], she captioned the post while tagging renowned Filipino director, Erik Matti.

Matti also shared the photos and said, “Glad [Anne Curtis] was able to attend a Sayoc training session with [Rafael Kayanan] in New York. Looking good! See you when you get back, Anne!” On the other hand, Kayanan expressed his gratitude in his post as he wrote, “Having worked with some super talented professionals who represent the future of global cinema in the past — I have much gratitude to director [Erik Matti] for paving the way to the Philippines! Looking forward to working with the authentically amazing [Anne Curtis].”

Anne Curtis and Erik Matti have previously worked together in “BuyBust” where the actress first trained for Pekiti Tirsia Kali, along with proper gun handling. In a video she shared prior to its release, she mentioned working “long, wet, and bloody nights” for it. ICYMI, the 2018 action-thriller film directed by Matti follows the story of a group of anti-narcotics agents trapped in a slum area during a buy-bust operation where Anne played the lead role of rookie agent Nina Manigan.

Over three years later, the pair are reuniting in a new action movie as announced by the award-winning film director. “We don’t shoot movies that are fast and easy,” he captioned their photo with producer Dondon Monteverde. “And with someone like Anne who already knows how much bucketloads of blood, sweat, and tears it’ll take to do our kind of movies and yet is still so excited and passionate about the story we are going to tell, we can only give it our best to someone like Anne who is hungry to not just make good work but to also pour in the hard work it takes to get it done.”

The “Multimedia Superstar” has always been passionate about her goals. Earlier this year, she finished the 2023 Tokyo Marathon as part of her fundraising program Takbo Para Sa Bata for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Philippines. She also confirmed her comeback to the big screen by sharing Matti’s post on her Instagram Stories and wrote “Excited for this,” including a teary-eyed emoji.
