“Iโm proud of myself for pushing through those tough moments, as well as to have been able to make a statement for the Philippines in one of the biggest stages of tennis,” she wrote.
“Moreover, Iโm thankful for all the positivity coming my way, and I pray that you all continue sending support through the highs and lows. Salamat sa lahat ng pagdadasal at magagandang mensahe (Thank you to everyone who prayed and left uplifting messages),” she added.
During her historic Miami Open stint, she was able to win three consecutive times. She first defeated world No. 25 Jelena Ostapenko, followed by world No. 5 Madison Keys and world No. 2 Iga Swiatek.
Despite falling short against Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, she has won the hearts of both Filipino and international fans who were cheering for her success.
Moving forward, the 19-year-old tennis sensation acknowledges how the past weeks have been an eye-opener for her:ย “I recognize that these two weeks have opened the door to so many opportunities for me, but along with those opportunities come a whole new set of obstacles I will have to navigate through.”
“The real work starts now,” she concluded her post.
Alex Eala is now the first Filipino tennis player to defeat a top-10 opponent since the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking system was introduced in 1975. She is also the first Filipina to reach the semifinals of a WTA 1000 tournament.
Moreover, she is now the first Filipino to debut in the top 100 in the history of WTA rankings. As of March 31, she ranks at world No. 75.
