After Seven Years, “The Sims Mobile” Is Shutting Down—Here’s What’s Next

After seven years of letting players live out their dream lives on their phones, The Sims Mobile is officially saying goodbye.

Electronic Arts (EA) announced that the mobile version of its beloved life simulation game will be shutting down on January 20, 2026.

First released in 2018, The Sims Mobile gave fans a portable way to build homes, customize Sims, and create stories, racking up over 50 content updates over the years.

In a heartfelt message posted on EA’s website, the Sims Mobile team thanked players for their creativity and community spirit. “You’ve amazed us with your stories, builds, and Sims,” they wrote. “We’re proud to have shared this journey with you.”

Before the servers officially close, EA will roll out one final update to wrap up The Sims Mobile’s story. While part one of that update has dropped, the game has already been delisted from the App Store and Google Play. This means that only existing players can continue playing.

The closure also coincides with EA’s massive $55 billion buyout deal, which will take the company private under investors including Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners.

While The Sims Mobile is coming to an end, the Sims franchise continues to thrive. EA recently released a new update for The Sims 4, and an all-new Sims title—rumored to bring back online multiplayer—is already in the works.

For fans who’ve spent years nurturing digital families on mobile, this is a significant shift, but also a chance to look forward to what’s next for the franchise.
