Now for the real deal, the food! Blue Posts has the kamayan concept down to a T. They place a white plastic topper to cover the entire table and voila! The entire table is now your plate. They provide orange plastic bibs and plastic gloves, but if you want to eat with your bare hands that’s okay too! They have wash areas on both floors.
First they have appetizers. We had the Spicy Gumbo Soup and the Crab Chowder. The Crab chowder tastes so good especially when the garlic topper has been generously mixed in, while the Spicy Gumbo Soup just sent our mouths into a frenzy with the explosion of flavors and just the right amount of spice. These can work as palate cleansers as well in between meals.
Main course! The Lemon Butter Garlic Shrimp and Salted Egg Crab already looked and smelled amazing before we even got to taste it! They serve it hot in a plastic bag that when you open, the smoke just teases you as it simmers out. You can have the food spread out on the table itself or you can keep it in the bag.
The Lemon Butter Garlic shrimp really gives you a satisfying taste with the added zing of the lemon. And the Salted Egg Crab has actual salted egg inside the crab! This is hands down, definitely a must-try dish at Blue Posts.
Their way of cooking the seafood is totally up to you. First, you choose which seafood. Then you choose how it is to be seasoned and cooked. Apparently, there are 3 main sauces for the products. The Garlic Fried, Blue Posts boil and the Asian Sambal which is the sweet and spicy. There are others too such as Garlic Lemon Butter Sauce and Salted Egg. After, you can also choose your extras; we opted of course for the never missing in action Filipino rice. According to Mr. Anthony Ang, the garlic fried option is the most popular in Davao, while the Blue Posts boil is well-loved here in Manila.
Here’s another great concept at Blue Posts! Instead of the usual crab cracker, they give you a mallet looking cracker and a wooden slab. The team really had fun crushing the hard shell to get the delicious crab meat. This wasn’t just fun, but satisfying too!
Blue Posts also offers a variety of non-seafood dishes like chicken if you want more options. They also serve a bunch of Filipino style desserts with a twist. Mr. Anthony Ang emphasizes on the concept of a comfortable family meal where being messy is encouraged. NESTLE® Mixology complements well with the idea of having a unique but familiar experience.
Here’s a pic of us making our mark on the wall of Blue Posts. 🙂
