In an interview on October 3, Gerald clarified that he has no political ambitions despite the recognition he has received for his heroic deeds.

“I wouldn’t jump into something na hindi ako handa o hindi ko pinag-aralan (I’m not prepared for or haven’t studied) because people’s lives are at stake,” he said.

He continued, “I’m just happy to be in a position where I can also help, nagagamit ko naman ‘yung platform ko (I’m able to use my platform),”

The 35-year-old actor emphasized that he is putting all his focus on his current projects, including his basketball league, “Got Game 3×3.”

“I’m happy,” he said. “‘Yung mga teams na sumali (the teams who joined), quality. It’s another platform para sa mga basketball players natin (It’s another platform for our basketball players).”

Gerald has been actively participating in disaster rescue efforts since Typhoon Ondoy in 2009. Recently, he was applauded by online users when he rescued a family that was trapped during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Carina, which caused flooding in the National Capital Region (NCR) last July.

The actor, who is also an Auxiliary Commander, received the “Search and Rescue Medal” from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for his heroic deeds.
