Pampanga is just a couple of hours or so away from Metro Manila, so the organizers expect a record turnout. Book lovers from nearby provinces of Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, La Union, and other towns and cities up North probably won’t want to miss out on the latest Big Bad Wolf Sale. The last one, which was held last February 22 to March 4, 2019 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, was record-breaking. So were the previous ones in Cebu (July 13-23, 2018) and Davao (November 23-December 2, 2018), as well the very first one in Manila (February 16-25, 2018).

“We received so many requests to bring Big Bad Wolf Book Sale to the Northern part of the country, so we granted their requests. We really go through the messages we receive on our social media accounts. Pampanga is the ideal choice, given its strategic location,” explains Narissa dela Pena, Country Manager of Big Bad Wolf Books.

Best-seller titles, young adult fiction, romance, science fiction, crime thriller, business, self-help, architecture, design, cooking, children’s fiction, and activity books are up for grabs once again. However, the highlight is the six new Magic Book or augmented reality (AR) titles that will be introduced, adding to 12 the titles that are already available. AR books are perfect for readers who wish to see their favorite characters from children’s books come to life.

“I did not grow up in a family that reads. I was not encouraged as a child to read. I did not grow up in a household with books. So, it has become my advocacy to not just instill reading habits to children, but for them to find enjoyment in reading. This is what our Magic Books bring to young readers,” shares Jacqueline Ng, Founder of the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale.

The sale really isn’t just about selling books. Inside the Big Bad Wolf is a kind-hearted sheep. Big Bad Wolf Books’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm Red Readerhood, in partnership with Gawad Kalinga (GK), donates books – lots of them! In 2019, a total of 6,838 books were donated to GK partner communities. They also donated Php5 million to GK from last year’s sale. You can help, too. Just buy a book from the designated Red Readerhood booth at the venue.

“By just having the sale here in our country, Big Bad Wolf already creates a big impact. Books are building blocks. They inspire aspirations from the readers for a future free from hunger or poverty. So we found a natural ally with Big Bad Wolf in our dream of building a better future for the next generation,” says Luis Oquiñena, Executive Director of Gawad Kalinga.

“Big Bad Wolf Sale allows us to bring equal opportunity to every child. We believe that knowledge is not a privilege. We believe that books do not just bring knowledge, it empowers and inspires,” adds Ng. “By making brand new affordable English books more accessible, especially to underserved communities, we will be able to cultivate a generation of readers that can help drive the country forward.”
