What’s Loy Krathong 2023 all about?

Loy Krathong is also referred to as the Thai Festival of Lights and always falls in the month of November. Participants release krathongs (floating baskets), usually in the shape of flowers and holding a candle or incense, into a body of water (rivers, lakes, etc.).

This festival is to say goodbye to negative energy and bad luck, in hopes that it will be carried away by the water spirits.

Up north like in the mountainous region of Chiang Mai, they use lanterns and let the wind carry them as an alternative.
