Avenged Sevenfold Manila ROCKED the Araneta With Blistering Performances of Their Best Singles

Avenged Sevenfold Manila is the epitome of a ROCKING concert!

When In Manila, we often hear people say this or that concert rocked. The concept has been peddled so much practically every concert as of late will have one review or comment saying, “The concert rocked!” We’re not trying to take away anything from the other concerts we may or may not have gone to, but if the subject matter is as straightforward as whether a concert rocked or not, then Avenged Sevenfold Manila definitely, absolutely ROCKED!

The “Nightmare” album cover was the backdrop for the first part of Avenged Sevenfold Manila.

Avenged Sevenfold Manila was a fairly short set of 12 songs, but almost all the songs they played were part of my personal wishlist. Opening with “Nightmare”, following through with “Welcome to the Family”, and transforming the audience into a crazy stampede with “Almost Easy”, M. Shadows‘ raspy voice transitioned effortlessly between powerful screams and clean vocals. Integrating fire-breathing, finger-blistering Metal with soft, melodious parts in their songs has been at the heart of A7X‘s songwriting, a style that has brought them mainstream success and drawn millions of rock fans to their music the world over.

M. Shadows leads the charge for Avenged Sevenfold Manila with his amazing voice and performance aura.

The crowd erupted whenever Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance played side by side the impossible riffs of their solos. Gates playing his solos so effortlessly left me mulling over how life is just so unfair when it comes to musical talent. As early as the first set, Zacky had already hung fans’ (girl fans, I hope) brasserie on his mic stand.

Synyster Gates

Synyster Gates made it looked so simple, casually playing through his guitar riffs throughout the evening. Darn it!

M. Shadows and Avenged Sevenfold Manila made sure that the fans took part in their music – literally. Halfway through “Buried Alive”, lucky fan girl Nicole was given the microphone and the center stage for the bridge. The girl did not disappoint, rocking her heart out while Shadows backed her up.

Not satisfied, Shadows called up another fan to play any instrument for “So Far Away”. The bloke held his own with the bass, at one time playing alongside Gates for the solo on top of the risers. These two fans just had the best night of their young lives – a night they will never forget. For everyone else, here’s a video of “So Far Away”, a song written in tribute of The Rev.

Personally, the best performances for me were “Welcome to the Family”, “Afterlife”, and Las Vegas-inspired “Bat Country”. “A Little Piece of Heaven” was also fun, although I’m not REALLY into necrophilia and all that weird sh*t. After the crowd beckoned for an encore, chanting “SEVENFOLD!” and “MORE!” for a protracted period of time, Avenged Sevenfold Manila obliged with  two more songs, closing with “Unholy Confessions”. A gaping mosh pit opened up in the middle of the crowd, and rock fans started running in circles as if they were part of a mad carousel! At the end of the show, everyone jostled for the picks and drumsticks that the band members were throwing away to the crowd.

When In Manila, ROCK ruled the night of April 26 with Avenged Sevenfold Manila. The image of the guitarists raising their axes to the crowd at the close still haunt me. And the rock fans who attended the concert say, “AMEN!”
