Zac Efron plays a cocky former Olympian-turned-lifeguard in the new Baywatch movie, but could you guess where he got his inspiration from?
According to the 29-year-old actor, he was inspired by Justin Bieber’s “cocky” persona!
“(I told the producers) I want to be the early Justin Bieber of swimming. It was that cocky (thing, he) messes up, but still has a good heart and you root for him.”
In the upcoming movie remake of the popular 90’s TV show, Zac plays Matt Brody, a former Olympian who has fallen out of grace, and later used as a PR opportunity to restore the team brand.
Meanwhile, the Dirty Grandpa actor denied any comparisons between his character, Matt and U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte, after his 2016 Olympic Games snafu in Brazil, insisting that the likeness was just a coincidence.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Zac explained:
“We came up with this character entirely on our own. As the Olympics were unfolding, we were going, ‘What the heck is going on right now!”
