‘Army of the Dead’ is one of the most-awaited Netflix zombie movies. After all, it has Zack Snyder at the helm and stars bad-ass star Dave Bautista. Alongside Dave is another bad-ass star that we were quite excited to interview before the film’s release: Ella Purnell. In ‘Army of the Dead’, Ella plays Dave’s daughter, Kate Ward, and if you’ve seen the movie… well, you may have questioned some of her decisions. As such, we asked Ella herself whether she would have made the same decisions were she in Kate’s shoes in real life. Here’s what she had to say:
“Honestly, it’s hard to say in those life-or-death situations,” she starts. “In really high-pressure situations, who knows how they would behave? People act completely erratically when they’re in shock and in the face of trauma and grief. And honestly, I can’t say that I wouldn’t. Maybe it wasn’t the smartest thing to do but Kate is tough. She holds her own. She knows how to work around a gun. She’s seen these things before. She grew up in this. Her dad is Dave Bautista. So would I have broken away from the group to save my friends? Yeah, probably.”
“I would do anything for my friends,” she explains. “So I probably would have, yeah. I would’ve probably also been the first to die, so don’t take my advice, kids!”
Ella also shares that she isn’t actually a fan of scary movies (especially not zombie movies) nor did she ever dream of being in one… at all. “I think that’s actually a testament to Zack and to the writing because if they can turn me into a zombie lover, then they can turn anyone.” She also shares that she never really saw herself as “an action girl”, either, but more in comedies or dramas. She never liked sports, either, although she does like watching action movies.
“But I really enjoyed it,” she assures us. “I learned a lot about my craft and about acting and I’ve hopefully become a better actor from those experiences. But now I’ve been turned. Now, I love them!”
