Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant history of Rock, people would rewind cassette tapes with pencils instead of shuffling through songs in their iPods. Instead of raising their lit-up mobile phones, fans would bring lighters and create a sea of hypnotic, flickering flames during the concert. That circa of Rock was unadulterated: The bands didn’t look for pretty boys and girls to sell their music (although Gwen Stefani did look mighty darn fine while she was with No Doubt), and the idea of “softening” their music to make it palatable to the general public was plainly incomprehensible!
When In Manila and the above descriptions resound with your childhood and/or growing up years, be ready to relive the glory days as Irish band The Cranberries comes to Manila this April 10, 2012 for a Greatest Hits concert. Expect some of the classics especially from their first two albums interspersed with singles from their new album “Roses”. Filipino superband Franco is also set to play as the front act of the evening.
At age 9, “Zombie” was the anthem of my awakening into the wonderful, spitfire world of Rock. “No Need To Argue” was the first cassette I ever owned. Given my affinity for the band, here is a list of the songs that I would love to hear Dolores O’Riordan sing in their Greatest Hits concert:
2) Linger (yes, that song from the movie “Click”)
3) Ode to My Family
4) I Can’t Be With You
5) Ridiculous Thoughts
7) Free to Decide
8) Promises (Love this song’s MTV!)
9) Just My Imagination
11) And of course, Zombie!
Would be crazy to hear “Zombie” in an episode of “The Walking Dead”. But anyways, click on this image to view the MTV of “Zombie”.
That’s my 11-song wish list. How about you? What’s your wishlist? When In Manila, be sure to catch The Cranberries as they perform live at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on April 10, 2012 for the Greatest Hits concert. We might not be allowed to raise our lighters, but it’s bloody hell worth a try!
