One of our favorite franchises is The Addams Family and one of the best characters there is Wednesday. The franchise began as single panel cartoons that crossed over to films, TV shows, video games, comics, and a musical, but arguably the most famous Wednesday is portrayed by Christina Ricci. She played the only daughter in the movies The Addams Family and The Addams Family Values, which were released in 1991 and 1993, and she is still remembered for the role today.
That’s why when the live-action Netflix series Wednesday was announced, fans started a petition for Ricci to be cast in the show.
It looks like their calls have been heard as the actress has joined the cast in a new and undisclosed role. What’s great is that she will be a series regular instead of just a guest cameo.
According to Deadline, Ricci has been filming Wednesday for weeks. The report adds that the series is set to wrap in Romania by the end of the month.
Wednesday Addams will be played by Jenna Ortega. Morticia and Gomez Addams, her parents, will be played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán.
The series is set during Wednesday’s years at Nevermore Academy and has been described as a “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery.”
Wednesday is directed by Tim Burton. There is no release date yet.
