Here Lies Love opens on Broadway on July 20, 2023, and the trailer has been released.

The musical is about former First Lady Imelda Marcos’ rise to power and subsequent fall at the hands of the Philippine People Power Revolution.

Here Lies Love began as a concept album by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim in 2010 and was adapted into a rock musical that debuted Off-Broadway in 2013. It was developed and directed by Alex Timbers with choreography by Annie-B Parson. Later, the musical was staged in London and Seattle.

Here Lies Love has been called “ingenious” by The New York Times and “an ecstatic and dynamic party” by Time Out New York. The musical transforms the theater into a dance club where the audience is immersed in the story.

This production is noted for having an all-Filipino cast. Its producers are mostly Filipino, including Lea Salonga, H.E.R., Jo Koy, and

Arielle Jacobs plays Imelda Marcos. Jose Llana reprises his role as her husband Ferdinand, while Conrad Ricamora returns as Ninoy Aquino. Llana and Ricamora portrayed the same positions in the original Off-Broadway run in 2013. Salonga will play Aurora Aquino, Ninoy’s mother, from July 11 to August 13.

Melody Butiu, who played Imelda’s mother Estrella Cumpas in the Off-Broadway run, will return in the same role.

They are joined by Moses Villarama, Jasmine Forsberg, Reanne Acasio, Jaygee Macapugay, Julia Abueva, Renée Albulario, Aaron Alcaraz, Carol Angeli, Nathan Angelo, Kristina Doucette, Roy Flores, Timothy Matthew Flores, Sarah Kay, Jeigh Madjus, Aaron “AJ” Mercado, Geena Quintos, Shea Renne, and Angelo Soriano.

Here Lies Love is staged at the Broadway Theatre.
