The films, called The Final and The Beginning, are set to reveal the story behind the cross wound on his cheek.
Takeru Satoh and Emi Takei will return as Kenshin Himura and Kaoru Kamiya. They will be joined by Japanese-American actor Mackenyu, who will portray the villain Enishi Yukishiro.
Keishi Otomo will return as director.
Rurouni Kenshin is based on the manga written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. It has been adapted into a film in 2012, followed by the sequels Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends, both released in 2014.
The Final and The Beginning will screen on July 3 and August 7, 2020.
