In case you didn’t know yet, a new Hunger Games movie is in the works and will officially hit theaters in November 2023. The movie, titled The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, after the book of the same title, is a prequel to the first four blockbuster Hunger Games movies we saw between 2012 to 2015.
We probably won’t be seeing Katniss, Peeta, and Gale in this one, though. Set many years before Katniss (played by Jennifer Lawrence) entered the games, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actually follows the life of a young Coriolanus Snow—that’s right. The ruthless, tyrannical President Snow of Panem.
In this prequel, the setting takes us back to the 10th Hunger Games, where “eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games,” according to Goodreads.
So far, confirmed actors are Tom Blyth who will be playing young Snow, and Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) who will play Lucy Gray Baird, a District 12 tribute in the 10th Hunger Games.
Lionsgate, the studio behind the Hunger Games franchise, released its first official teaser, which you can watch here:
