No man is an island, as the adage goes. When you isolate yourself from the people who matter most to you under the guise of being self-sufficient and independent, you miss out on the many things that make life a beautiful experience.
No one can truly thrive being alone. This is what the new Netflix film “Finding Agnes” aims to communicate to us as we follow the life-altering journey of a successful entrepreneur in Morocco as he attempts to make sense of the life his estranged mother had lived in the 25 long years since she left him.
Starring comedic actor Jelson Bay and beloved young actress Sue Ramirez as half-siblings, the movie is certainly going to be quite an emotional ride as evidenced in the dramatic trailer. In it, we witness how Bay’s character had been abandoned as a child and how it had affected his outlook in life and the way he related with other people. He flies to Morocco where he discovers the kind of life his mother led with the help of his mother’s adopted daughter, Cathy.
“Ang vision ko dito ay ‘yong makita natin kung gaano ka-importante ang relationship—hindi lamang sa pamilya pati sa mga taong nakapaligid sa atin, na minsan nalilimutan natin na maraming bagay ang bumubuo sa pagkatao natin, na walang masama na tayo ay kumonekta sa mga ito at wag piliin na maging mag-isa,” said director Marla Ancheta about the film.
[“My vision for this is for us to see just how important relationships are—not only with the family but with the people around us, who we forget shape our identities—that there is nothing wrong with connecting with these strangers, and that we must not choose to live alone.”]
“Finding Agnes” will premiere on Netflix this November 30.
