Lady Gaga has revealed she has PTSD or post-traumatic stress disorder.

“I suffer from a mental illness . I suffer from PTSD. I’ve never told anyone that before, so here we are,” she said in an interview with Today show. Lady Gaga was raped when she was 19 years old, an tragic event she only spoke of two years ago. She is 30 now.

The topic of mental illness has a reputation of being quite taboo, even here in the Philippines, and more and more celebrities are recently speaking out to fight the stigma. It is around us more than we think.

Lady Gaga spoke of how she is coping: “The kindness that’s been shown to me by doctors, as well as my family and my friends, it’s really saved my life,” she says. “I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself, and I’ve found that kindness is the best way.”

The Grammy-winning artist spoke a lot about kindness, saying “kindness is the way,” and shared that meditation helps her deal with her illness every day.
