WATCH Jessica Sanchez Returns to American Idol!

American Idol took its bow this week, closing the show after 15 seasons of creating America’s next superstar. As it announced Trent Harmon as its final Idol, the show looked back and invited alumni to perform on stage. And one of those that stole the show was Jessica Sanchez, the Filipino-Mexican who placed first runner-up in the 11th season.

Sanchez closed a ballad medley, featuring some of the show’s most memorable contestants. She sang a soulful rendition of Celine Dion’s “The Prayer” after Katherine McPhee, Casey James, Carly Smithson, Clay Aiken, Amber Holcomb and Ruben Studdard.

Sanchez joined the show in 2012 as a 16 year old, and was a weekly favorite.  During the Whitney Houston episode on March 7, she sang “I Will Always Love You,” bringing the judge to their feet and becoming the only contestant to receive a standing ovation that night. She trended worldwide on Twitter, and a YouTube video garnered five million views in just three days.

During the AI finale episode, Sanchez trended again on Twitter and received praise for her performance.
