Ion Perez opened up to actor-host Ogie Diaz about how he fell in love with It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda.
In a YouTube vlog posted by Ogie, Ion shared that prior to working on the noontime show, Ion had always empathized with Vice whenever Vice would cry onscreen and lament over being used and mistreated by people. And when Ion joined the show in September 2018 as the stage escort of candidates in the Miss Q&A segment, he admitted that he was instantly drawn to Vice—always noticing him and always listening attentively to him—which he says is because he was a longtime fan.

“Hindi ko inisip na darating kami sa ganito,” he said. “Maging kaibigan ko lang si Vice… yung parang maging kaibigan lang talaga na kung may problema siya, baka isa rin ako sa mga taong puwede niyang pagsabihan. Pero hindi ko talaga in-expect na darating kami sa ganito.”
(“I never thought we would end up together. I would be fine just being Vice’s friend… to be his friend that, whenever he has problems, maybe I would be one of those people he could talk to. But I never would have expected that we would end up together.”)
Ion continued: “Hindi ko masisisi ang sarili ko, sobrang bait ni Vice. Hindi mo rin ako masisisi kung bakit ako na-in love sa kaniya, kasi sobrang bait niya talaga. (I can’t blame myself, Vice is so kind. You can’t blame me also for falling in love with him because he’s so kindhearted.)”
“Dati hindi ako naniniwala sa forever, ngayon nararamdaman ko na makakasama ko siya nang matagal (I never believed in forever, but now I can feel that I will be with him for a long time),” he added.

He also shared that both his and Vice’s mothers have already met one another. When pressed on what Vice’s mom, Rosario Viceral, asked of him, Ion said: “Alagaan ko daw po si Tutoy, mahalin ko daw si Tutoy. Sabi ko, ‘Nay, sa abot ng aking makakaya, aalagaan ko at mamahalin ko si Tutoy.‘”
(“She told me to take care of Tutoy and love Tutoy. I told her, ‘Mom, to the best of my abilities, I will take care of and love Tutoy.'”)
He also gave the following message to all the fans who are unconvinced of Ion’s sincerity regarding his relationship with Vice:
“Sa lahat ng nag-iisip na piniperahan ko si Vice Ganda, masasabi ko lang sa inyo, pakisamahan niyo lang ako sa maghapon. Kung may nasabi kayo sa pag-uugali ko, sige, magpapaalila ako sa inyo.”
(“To everyone who thinks I’m just after Vice Ganda’s money, all I can say to you is spend time with me for one day. If you have complaints about my attitude, sure, I’ll be your servant.”)
