Vogue-approved Pinoy Brand Releases Sustainable Footwear Line

With the local fashion industry being among the hardest hit industries by the COVID-19 pandemic, most brands have shifted their goals to continue to weather these tough times.

Annie & Lori, a Vogue-approved homegrown shoe brand, continues to walk forward with the launch of the limited edition Sako collection, the brand’s most sustainable line of footwear to date.

The Sako collection reflects the rich cultural heritage and agricultural resources of the Philippines. Carefully and skillfully handcrafted by Filipino footwear artisans using jute as its main material, it is not only sustainable and eco-friendly but also durable and stylish.

The Sako collection features two variations of stylish loafers – one is a combination of white jute and red leather accent and the other combines natural-colored jute with yellow-beige leather accent. Also part of the collection is a 2 ½-inch Sako platform available in bone and white, and a Sako pump, available in white with an intricate design inspired by the Philippine flag.

This collection is the latest addition to Annie & Lori’s growing list of sustainable products. In 2019, the brand introduced a vegetable-tanned leather collection, where cowhide is turned into the leather using natural materials sans the harmful chemicals.

Earlier this year, Annie & Lori was recognized by British Vogue as a brand that reflects the Filipino culture whilst keeping its minimalist and chic style. The feature highlighted Annie & Lori’s take on the traditional bakya or wooden clogs.
