Our country’s history is rich, rife with struggles, but also filled with stories of true bravery and heroism. Today’s holiday, National Heroes Day, recognizes that. Sometimes, however, history is not quite how we imagined it.
Historian Ambeth Ocampo shares this amazing photo on his Facebook page:

Pictured above are the drunk Jose Rizal, Juan Luna, Felix Resurrection Hidalgo, and Trinidad H. Pardo De Tavera. In an earlier post, Ambeth Ocampo explains:

What do you think of the photos?

Sino kaya ang photographer nila, si Antonio Luna
thanks to collector alfonso ongpin… for preserving this invaluable picture.
so they’re human just like you and me after all! sigh!!!
I can’t help but imagine if Rizal was alive today, he’d probably become a selfie addict too tapos laging updated social networks nya at araw araw me uploaded pic sa Instagram. During that time having your photograph taken was quite rare and only available to the privileged as opposed to the present where technology is available to almost everyone, Tapos laging puno ang gossip columns kung sino ang bagong ka date ni Rizal hehehehe
As for Juan Luna malamang naka enroll lagi sa anger management class hahahaha. It’s fun to see our national heroes acting like normal people as opposed to laging naka stiff pose.
Sabi ni Rizal: shot shot muna tayo jan bago groupie pic hahahhaah
Rizal look like Jet li in the first photo
