UP PUGAD Sayk Launches FST Initiatives for Incoming UP Diliman Students

UP PUGAD Sayk has long remained true to its core commitment of putting people first by championing psychology for all. In recent years, the organization has strengthened its ties with various organizations and institutions, reached out to both sustaining and new partner communities, including The Heart at Play and God’s Grace Home Care Center, and joined calls to action against emerging social injustices in the Philippines. For its 27th year, the organization aims to amplify the voices of the marginalized and make psychology more grounded and responsive to the Filipino masses, breaking away from the discipline’s Westernized ideals as if it were still in an “ivory tower.”

As the new academic year begins, the organization kicks off its programs and events with FST Initiatives, a three-part event where freshmen, shiftees, and transferees across the university are introduced to the field of psychology, its role in the continuing resistance against systemic oppression, and the advocacies and history of the organization itself.

For its first event, DE27INATION: Psych-ed Tour, happening on August 3, 2026, participants, together with the organizers, will tour the UP Diliman campus and visit some of its most iconic landmarks, including Sunken Garden, Palma Hall, and Lagmay Hall, home of the University’s Department of Psychology. At each stop, participants will enjoy trivia games and activities where they can learn psychological concepts and theories and their relevance to the current social and political climate. The event showcases the beauty and culture of UP Diliman while highlighting the sociocivic responsibilities that come with being an Iskolar ng Bayan.

The other two events, Apps’ Orye, the applicants’ orientation, and Apps’ AKWE, the applicants’ acquaintance party, both taking place in September 2026, aim to introduce participants to the organization’s systems and internal processes in achieving its goals and aspirations for the new academic year. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet students from different colleges and programs, enriching their understanding of intersectionality and appreciation for genuine human connections while embodying the organization’s vision of “unity through diversity.”

There is much to look forward to in UP PUGAD Sayk’s projects, events, and advocacies this academic year, and it is time to RESON27E more voices than ever before.
