We can’t be the only ones whose jaws dropped to the floor upon seeing Miss World Philippines 2021 Tracy Maureen Perez’s national costume which transformed her into a moon goddess!
Designed by Filipino designer Axel Que, the gown stood out for its ornate details, regal colors, flowers, tassels, and jewels — all of which were inspired by the Philippine mythological figure.
“Mayari. Moon Goddess and daughter of Bathala. Hailed as the most beautiful deity, she has complete dominion of the world at night,” said Axel as he showcased the piece on his Instagram account. “The moon has been revered as a celestial being by most ancient civilizations in antiquity. Apart from its mysterious allure, it has also been [thought] to have [a] great cosmic influence on the mortal realm.”
Explaining his creation, he added, “My rendition incorporated a lot of traditional forms as the base silhouette, with slight exaggerations in the proportion and volume. For embellishment, I crafted white & purple moon flowers (morning glory/moon vine) from scratch, and added the gradient shading in the middle to give it more depth. Pearls and tassels thoughtfully border the hemlines.”
Tracy’s portraits were taken by photographers Mark Neto Diaz and Larlo Ray.
She entered the top 30 of the Miss World 2021 pageant and will be competing in the coronation night to be held on December 16 in Puerto Rico (December 17, Philippine time).
Megan Young was the last Filipina to win the Miss World 2021 crown back in 2013.
