BTS’s Jimin Proves Small Gestures Cause Big Waves as ARMYs Raise Millions for Young Cancer Patients

As the first Asian act to ever win the Artist of the Year award at the American Music Awards in 2021, BTS has established itself as a global icon whose influence in music transcends international mainstream barriers.

And as their following grew globally, BTS has shown that their impact goes far beyond music and into society, inspiring ARMYs—their devoted fans—to contribute to charitable causes, including Heroes for Children, a Texas-based nonprofit organization that supports families of children battling cancer.

Currently, the charity’s fundraising campaign has already raised over P5.6 million in donations from ARMYs all around the world, and it only needed one brief interaction between BTS’s Jimin and a 10-year-old cancer patient for this initiative to begin.

The moment that sparked the donation drive occurred during the K-pop group’s ARIRANG tour stop in Arlington, Texas, on August 15, 2026, when BTS’s lead vocalist approached, gave a warm hug, a gentle kiss on the cheek, and a keepsake to Olivya, one of the pediatric cancer patients hosted by Heroes for Children.

For the foundation, the concert was more than just a mere show; it was a chance for the young warriors “to step outside the routines and realities of treatment and experience something that feels normal, joyful, and entirely their own.”

Following the outpouring of support from fans, Jenny Lawson, executive director and co-founder of Heroes for Children, thanked BTS for lending their spotlight to the organization and helping them raise awareness for their causes.

“I cannot thank BTS, Jimin, and UnitedHealthcare enough for making this incredible moment possible,” said Lawson. “For a child who has faced some incredibly difficult moments, Jimin gave her a moment filled with joy, love, and pure happiness. It is a memory she and her family will carry with them forever.”

While some may view RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook as just another K-pop group, their platform continues to serve as a powerful catalyst for generosity and real-world kindness, inspiring ARMYs all around the world.
