Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Jessie J – More Than Just the Price Tag
A quick music getaway is always a good idea. From gigs to concerts to mini jamming sessions – it has always amazed me how music can fix even the smallest issues in my life. I know its cliché, but heck, music will always be food for my soul and will always be the quickest fix for my feels.
These past few days, I felt like my plate has been overflowing – with work, with responsibilities, with the need to fulfill the world’s expectations. Right when life had been nothing but overwhelming, however, I was able to catch a brief getaway from it all by finally witnessing one of my idols perform live right before my very eyes. It was such a privilege to see Jessie J up close and personal, but what made my experience even more memorable was the fact that I was able to see my favorite artist in her true form – a humble, talented, and fun artist who loves to love, and who is loved by everyone around her.
Jessie J is definitely more than just the singer of the hit song “Price Tag” and definitely more than just a mentor for The Voice UK. For many, she might be just another pop singer; but for some, she is an inspiration and a role model. I have listed down the top 10 reasons why Jessie J rocks, and why YOU should love her, too.
Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Jessie J – More Than Just the Price Tag
1. She can belt out high notes with definition and beauty.
During her concert, she mentioned that she was feeling a little out of the weather and that her voice was not in its best shape. She also kept on soothing her throat during breaks, but what the heck! Whenever she opened her mouth to sing, it still felt like heaven had opened its gates for everyone. She hit her high notes effortlessly, and despite her obviously hoarse speaking voice, she was still able to belt out all of her songs graciously. Ahh. Such talent!
2. She is gorgeous.
Looking at her up close definitely made me realize how beautiful she really is. She looks even more stunning when she smiles! She also have a very schmexy English accent. What more can you ask for? Girl crush alert, yes!
3. She can do it like a dude – and rap better than most dudes.
For those who are not familiar with Jessie J’s discography… aside from her ballads and pop songs, she also has a couple of tracks that involves her rapping. She did them so much swag and so excellently that I would choose her over any other rappers any day.
4. She can dance like crazy yet still look hot while doing so.
From back bending to simple body wiggling, Jessie J looked stunning despite her crazy little dance routines. Aside from Price Tag, she is also well known for her booty shakin’ tracks – and she didn’t disappoint when she belted them out complete with their very own cray gestures.
5. She is a woman of many talents.
Aside from the fact that she can sing and rap very well, she also writes her own songs. Most of her lyrics are based from her own feels and experiences, making each track a story of her life. She’s also a very versatile artist, singing a variety of genres on each of her albums.
6. She connects well with her audience.
What made me smile the most during her concert was when she started asking questions to a girl from the audience and created the most spontaneous song in the world – which was, basically, a song about her name, her origin, and her birthday. She then ended it with a cute little speech, which was also delivered in a form of a song. It got better when a fan threw a teddy bear her way with a small letter attached to it. It was about the fan’s struggle and finding his way to salvation through Jessie J’s music. It was actually so heartwarming that Jessie was almost in tears halfway through. This just made me realize how open her heart is to everyone and how sincere she is when she tells the world that she loves her fans.
7. She can make you laugh, cry, and dance within two hours.
Her concert is like a story unfolding – with a mellow, happy tone at the start, a more serious and emotional part in the middle, and a dance pop party towards the end. It was such an entertaining concert, and it made everyone feel like we were going through a roller coaster of emotions – in the most wonderful way possible.
8. She is such an inspiration.
With her songs making people believe that “it’s okay not to be okay”, Jessie J is definitely one heck of an inspirational diva. She went through the same phase; but amidst the confusion and the pressure, she came out successfully. She makes music the way that she likes it, and that particular way was to share her struggles and successes with her audience, letting them see that if she was able to survive these challenges, so can you.
9. She has a huge and kind heart.
The last part of the concert made the biggest mark on me. Usually, when artists come out for their curtain call, they say thank you to their audience and bid their goodbyes, or they actually call in the names of their staff just to recognize their hard work. In my history of concert watching, it was the first time for me to actually see an artist call out her entire crew on stage and acknowledge their efforts in the sweetest way possible. Her sincerity towards her appreciation to her team was definitely undeniable, with her refusing to give the final bow until her hairdresser showed up on stage.
10. She knows how to give a GREAT concert.
What makes a great concert is letting your audience be a part of your performance. In Jessie J’s case, she did not only let her audience shine, but she also gave her back-up singers their own spotlights during her performances. She also made sure that everybody was enjoying themselves, getting everyone to participate, clap their hands and sing along. It was beautiful to see people smile and scream for joy during and after the show. Isn’t that what it’s all about, anyway? Making your audience happy? For this one, Jessie J owned the throne, and she completely and utterly blew each member of her audience away with her awesome set of songs and her beautiful voice.
