This was Gal Gadot’s original name

As we’ve previously written in another article, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has set the record straight on how her name should be pronounced. In case you haven’t read it yet, you really should, but I’ll let you in on a clue: it’s not a French-esque “Ga-doe”.

Gal Gadot Will Play Wonder Woman

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, as it turns out, there is a lot of buzz about Gal Gadot’s name — including the fact that her name wasn’t originally Gal Gadot, to begin with. Surprised? Bear with me on this one.

Although Gal is Israeli, and the family name Gadot is, in fact, Hebrew, Gal’s family did in fact only adopt the surname Gadot when Gal was a little older. Their original family name does, in fact, sound like something you’d hear more in the neighborhoods of Washington Heights: Greenstein.

That’s right, they went from Greenstein to Gadot. Gal revealed this little tidbit in her interview with Jimmy Kimmel, during the same episode when she settled the score on the real pronunciation of Gadot. As Jimmy said, “They went for a stage name. They were preparing you for fame.”
