UST MUN 2020 POSTER WITH PARTNERS PREV

The UST Asian Studies Society, the official Asian Studies student organization under the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), for the first time, will hold its annual Model United Nations virtually.

The UST MUN 2020 aims to utilize different online platforms wherein the conference will be conducted in order to continuously deliver efficient and proactive diplomacy to young aspiring diplomats who aim to partake in international affairs. UST MUN 2020 strongly believes that this pandemic is not a hindrance to hone the youth’s diplomatic skills and potential abilities to make a change. This year’s UST MUN will be divided into two parts, November 2020 and January 2021.

The UST MUN 2020 will gather various students from senior high school and tertiary levels to engage in a simulation-seminar where the procedures of the UN assembly will be instructed and actualized.

Envisioning the youth to become global leaders through diplomatic means, the 7th UST Model United Nations will have the theme: “Engaging the Stakeholders of our Future: Cultivating the Youth as Proactive Agents of Diplomacy for an Empowered Global Community.”

This year’s UST MUN will consist of three councils where delegates are to discuss their respective agendas:

  • The General Assembly, or the main deliberative, policy-making, and representative organ of the UN will tackle the topic “Transnational Crime: The Escalation of Human Trafficking Among Minors.”
  •  The Economic and Social Council, which acts as the principal body for coordination, policy review, and policy dialogues on economic, social, and environmental issues will discuss The Role of the 4th Industrial Revolution on Harnessing Employment and Labor.
  • The Security Council, which handles the maintenance of international peace and security will talk about The Societal Plight of the Young: Addressing the Security of the Youth Living in Conflict Zones”.

UST MUN 2020 aims to advance towards a competent and proficient diplomacy through multifaceted trainings that will equip its delegates for their future endeavors in the field of diplomacy.
