“Baby girl Vinice Mabansag is the Philippines’ symbolic 8 billionth citizen of the planet.”
This is the news announced by the Commission on Population and Development on Facebook.
It added, she was “born through normal spontaneous delivery by her mother Margarette at the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Medical Center in Manila at exactly 1:29 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2022.”
What does symbolic mean?
Popcom officer-in-charge Lolito Tacardon told PTV, “Symbolic lamang ito. Parang… worldwide since nagkaroon na tayo ng 8-billionth baby, every milestone, every billionth population, tayo ay nagse-select ng pinaka-unang baby na pinanganak sa midnight ng November 15.”
As the symbolic 8 billionth baby, Vinice will receive minimal incentives from the government, like tokens and free lifetime check-ups from the hospital.
