The streaming service shared the news on Twitter this Saturday. They also announced filmmaker Haifaa Al-Mansour to be leading the project as its director.
Al-Mansour is best known for directing Mary Shelley and The Perfect Candidate. She has previously partnered with Netflix when directing Nappily Ever After.
It will be produced by Denise Di Novi (Little Women) and Pouya Shahbazian (Divergent). Casting details have yet to be announced.
The Selection follows America Singer, a young girl, as she is selected to compete for Prince Maxon’s hand in marriage. She goes up against 34 other girls desperately vying for a chance to live amongst the elite, being perhaps the only one who has little interest in actually winning.
