INSPIRING: Philippines Is One of Top Countries with Most Increase in Forest Area

This sounds like great news.

According to a report from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Philippines ranked 5th among the 234 countries with the most increase in forest area annually. The report revealed that the Philippines increased in forest area for 240,000 hectares from 2010 to 2015.

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), annual loss of forest accounted to aboout 47,000 hectares from 2003 to 2010. An estimated 8 million hectares need reforestation and rehabilitation.

In the said report, the country was behind these four countries:

  • China (1.5 million hectares)
  • Australia (308,000 hectares)
  • Chile (301 hectares)
  • the US (275,000 hectares)
