MRT riders, we have great news for you: you can get free rides on select dates and times throughout the month of August.
The free rides will be available on August 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 9 AM to 11 AM and 6 PM to 8 PM.
To get the free ride, just show any form of your National ID. That includes the physical card, the printed paper version, or even a digital copy on your phone. Show it to the station security before heading to the platform, and you’re good to go.
Whether you’re commuting to work, school, or running errands, this perk is a simple way to save a few pesos.

The program, launched by MRT-3 management and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), is part of a push from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to encourage more people to use their National IDs in day-to-day transactions, especially for government services.
With fare prices and the cost of living continuing to rise, this “Libreng Sakay” promo comes as a much-needed break for regular train riders. It’s also a way for Filipinos to use their National ID.

Still, not everyone gets to take advantage of this. Senator Panfilo Lacson, who co-authored the National ID Law (Republic Act 11055), pointed out that many Filipinos are still waiting for their IDs after signing up.
If you’ve already got your National ID, don’t forget to bring it on Wednesdays and enjoy the free ride!
And hey, if you’re still waiting on your National ID, maybe this is the sign to check your application status. A free ride (or four) might just be worth the follow-up.
